MEET THE HOSTS

Fred "biggie" Smalls

Fred "Biggie" Smalls is the owner & founder of Above & Beyond Physiques. At the age of 13, he was too heavy at 5’ and 180 pounds. Freddie's mom was concerned and took him over to The Training Center, where he currently runs his business today, many years later.

Freddie's mom got him a trainer & mentor to whip him into shape, and that trainer happened to be a powerlifter.

The owner of my gym helped Freddie get ready for his first ever contest, the ANBC Delaware, which Freddie won. Freddie impressed his peers & competitors, and was inspired when he was told he had potential, so he wanted to keep going.

He competed successfully in the sport, and in 1996, became the world champion in two federations, the ADFPA and WNPF. Freddie fell in love with the look & the sport and wanted to have a muscular physique and win his state show.

Fred was inspired by Shawn Ray’s physique, but when he saw Flex Wheeler guest pose in his area in 1996, he was blown away that a person could possibly look like that.

Ronnie Coleman’s work ethic and training intensity was a huge influence on Fred, and of the guys out there today, Dextar Jackson and Shawn Rhoden's ability to improve and work hard keeps Fred believing he can continue to achieve greatness in the sport.

In 2005, Fred had a severe injury to a tendon in his wrist after a bad spot on heavy incline dumbbell presses—it caused his hand to almost turn fully around 360 degrees!

He couldn’t even hold a 12-pound dumbbell. The doctors said he had two options: either lift very light weights from then on or train heavy until the tendon fully tore so they could go in and reattach it.

Instead, Fred chose to rehab it on his own by gradually increasing weights... and made a complete recovery!

That episode definitely taught Fred not to take training and competing for granted because you never know which workout or contest may be your last.

In 2018 Fred tore his chest while benching 585lbs, and yet again made a total recovery!

ASHLEY SODEN

Prior to having Stella, Ashley was under the impression she was unable to have a baby. Because of this, she struggled immensely with the deep rooted belief that something was wrong with her.

Her anxieties manifested in her daily life, even into how she approached diet & exercise. She was so unsure of herself that she doubted herself in her approach to everything, including fitness and nutrition. She yo-yo dieted and bounced back and forth between over-restricting & binge eating food. Her health was in a state of decline and she was in constant pain both physically and mentally. She neglected herself in many ways, and was her own worst enemy for quite some time.

Ok, so that's all the technical stuff about Ash... but who is she, REALLY?

Ashley takes most pride in being a mother to her beautiful two year old daughter, Stella, with her husband Ray.

The day she discovered she was pregnant with Stella, and everything changed.

Newly pregnant and motivated to keep it that way, she needed to be one thing only: HEALTHY. The subconscious belief that she needed to change finally came to the conscious mind... so, became educated on everything you can possibly imagine about the science of prioritizing health within the body and mind.

In order to achieve success, Ash understood that she first needed to study success to understand it and create a plan to achieve it. She understood the necessity to become the student and to learn as much as possible from the wisdom from the experts.

In August of 2018, Ashley had Stella via c-section, which made for a more difficult recovery.

By this point, she knew exactly how to prioritize and maintain health within the body. As a new mother, Ash knew she needed to go down a different path than she ever has before. She needed to set the example for her daughter of what it means to be a strong and graceful woman.

To throw herself into action, she knew she needed a motivator - so at 5'0" resting at 200 lbs sitting on the coach with her c-section stitches still fresh, Ashley committed 100% to competing in a Bodybuilding competition within 1 year. She received a ton of doubt from others, but she knew deep in her belief system that she could do it if she really wanted to.

So, she set a goal. She put together steps to get to that goal and made it tangible. She already learned the power of collapsing time with mentorship, so she hired a mentor to hold her accountable and remain objective. Then she relied on her discipline to her self worth to push her to take action every day.

With her vicious passion for the human body, Ashley quickly knew that she needed to help others the way she helped herself. Through all her years of geeking out and studying the best of the best in the industry, Ashley was not only able to lose 80 pounds, but she won 1st in her division as well as the Overall Champion title -- all within 1 year of having a c-section!

Ashley realized her transformation was so much more than physical... it was emotional, mental, spiritual. Through this journey, she found EMPOWERMENT.

But she soon realized that this empowerment was only one type of empowerment. Were there other types? Ashley needed to empower her whole life, not create an imbalance.

She used all her combined years of education, research, personal experience, and trial/error led her to find out the truth behind obtaining TOTAL EMPOWERMENT, and how to obtain it from a place of health.

SO: how does one obtain total empowerment? By conquering the seven empowerment sectors: body, emotions, relationships, time, business, money and spirituality.

The following year, Ashley stepped on stage at the North American Championships and won second place in Figure Division, all while operating her business and training through a pandemic.

Ashley's mission is to provide guidance to those who are inspired to follow a similar journey, and to help YOU find your own EMPOWERED BODY!
